March 11th Fishing Report
Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.Decent temperatures mid morning through the afternoon to be outside! The fishing is still just ok, but starting to pick up a bit with the water temperature creeping upwards towards the high 40s.
Overall creeks are clear and VERY low with temperatures in the mid 40s. A few midges are still hatching, and we are seeing more olives around. Nothing we would call the hatch yet, but more and more showing up every day.
The best fishing is still with scuds and flashy nymphs as well as black leeches below the riffles.
Our creeks need water to continue to fish well. Even on the overcast and misty days the fishing is far better, but we are on almost 3 years of low water conditions. Because of the lower flows and clear water, the fish are extremely spooky, so approach every spot with as much stealth as you can!
Remember, we have our guest speaker from Argentina in town this Wednesday March 13th here in Viroqua talking about fly fishing and non fly fishing opportunities in Argentina from 4-5:45 p.m.
