September 1st Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 75. Light and variable wind.
It is still summertime in the Driftless, meaning we are fishing Tricos early then switching to hopper dropper.  The fishing still cuts off around mid day, then can pick up again in the evenings.  BUT, looking at the long term forecast, the nights are getting chillier and the daytime temperatures are dropping quite a bit too (no days over 80 degrees this week!). Next weekend's highs are forecasted to be in the mid to high 60s!
What this means, is that the fishing will really start to pick up as water temperatures cool and trout become more comfortable as we slide into late summer.  If the cooler temperatures hold on, and we do not get a heat wave, watch for Tricos to start to disappear, and the tiny olives start to show up in the afternoons instead.  Your terrestrial and droppers will work all day long regardless
