September 27th Fishing Report

A bright and sunny days with a low of 53 and high of 79. A similar, but slightly warmer forecast for the next few days as well. Winds are variable and generally mild, 20mph Saturday. No rain in the forecast.

On the surface, a few tricos are still being spotted, and a few caddis as well. We’ll still need some cooler weather, clouds and drizzle to really trigger the olive hatch. In the meantime, beetles, ants and grasshoppers are still working very well from late morning through mid afternoon. Earlier in the day, nymphing under an indicator or prospecting with a beetle and nymph dropper has been effective. Thin bodied nymphs such as perdigons, Werthers Carmel and Pearl & Orange have been doing the trick in clear water. Pink squirrels, scuds and hotspot pheasant tails have been doing well in stained water. When all else fails... GO BIG. Try bigger foam, and streamers in the evenings.
