January 6th Fishing Report
Increasing clouds, with a high near 37. West wind 6 to 9 mph.
Creeks are low and clear with water temperatures in the mid to high 30s. We have had a few abnormally warm days (remember it is winter in Wisconsin and this is what we consider warm!) that has made being on the creeks tolerable!
Fish are feeding in the riffles and runs on tungsten bead head nymphs (spanish bullet flies have been very effective) and scuds. Mid day, there have been some rising fish for an hour or so eating midge dries.
We have also had some success fishing leeches slowly right below the riffles.
With high sun and crystal clear water, the fish are spooky. Be as stealthy as possible and focus on the broken water (not the calm pools and flats) for best results.
