August 18th Fishing Report

A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. West wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Cooler weather and some potential rain blowing in this afternoon.  Outside of the larger creeks (West Fork, Bad Axe watershed), everything is in pretty good shape temperature wise for the dog days of summer!  We are really hoping for more rain and cloud cover.

Right now, shade is key.  Fish as early as possible watching for fish sipping midges and tricos, avoid the mid day sun, and head out again late in the evening near last light.  Twitching some CDC and Elk caddis or the medusa caddis has been effective.

Otherwise, to prospect, fish a large beetle pattern or training wheel with a dark, flashy bead head below.  Finding overhanging vegetation, even if it is just a couple blades of grass, is key to finding fish.  Trout are also tucked up below undercut banks most of the day.
