It started sooner than expected but our guides today started to see a significant amount of muddy snowmelt hitting the creeks this afternoon. With the warmer temperatures and lack of re-freezing overnight, the situation has changed quite a bit for the weekend outlook. Quality fishing is questionable right now for the next few days. We will keep you posted here and on social media.
Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 37. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Creeks are low and clear and the fish are spooky!
So far snowmelt has not impacted creeks heavily. You can still successfully fish from 9-3. Once the water temperature drops in the afternoon the fishing shuts down.
We are still seeing fish rising daily to midges and winter stoneflies. It is not warm enough to see olives again until maybe Saturday.
Subsurface fishing has been fantastic on pretty much anything rolled along the bottom.
**Sunday looks questionable** While the weather will be incredibly pleasant, Saturday’s snowmelt will not subside overnight as it will not re-freeze. Sunday might be a day to break out the larger streamers and squirmy wormies!

Things have been so much fun this March. Perfect winter conditions to fish mid day. Make sure you are fishing rising water temperature. Once snowmelt hits the creeks the fishing shuts down. Typically the best fishing is between 9 and 2.
Spanish bullets, zebra midges, surrender jigs and simple black copper johns are doing very well subsurface. On the surface, miracle midges, massacre midges and simple parachute adams are catching fish.
Look for rising fish in the afternoons on the tailouts of pools.
Creeks are low and clear (normal for winter) and the fish are spooky. Make sure to approach with as much stealth as possible!

These conditions are the absolute best you can ask for when snow is on the ground. It is warm enough to have good fishing, but not so warm that things melt quickly and muddy/cool down the creeks. We will get some snowmelt, but it locks up again at night and should not be enough to cause fishing to be poor.
Make sure you are fishing between 9 and 2 or 3 and you will have the best success.
We should continue to see midges and winter stoneflies. The olives we saw on Sunday might show up again, but normally it has to be a bit warmer for olives to come out.
Subsurface fishing on thin, dark patterns as well as leeches and streamers fished slowly subsurface.

Today is the coldest day this week! Every other day is forecasted to be in the 40s!!! This is what we look for in winter fishing!
Yesterday got warm enough to see olives hatching, and the fish fed with abandon. There are still midges and a few winter stoneflies around, but outside of adding some olive dries to the mix, you do not have to change things up drastically.
Nymph wise, anything 16-20 in black, brown, or dark olive with a slim profile matches every bug right now. Dry wise, your single bodied midge adults and BWO patterns are the ticket.
Do not neglect leeches and streamers, with the water temperatures warming up a bit, the fish are more active.
Creeks are clear and flowing just a touch low. Normal for wintertime.
Temperatures will hit the magic 40 degree mark today and tomorrow. That will trigger some midge hatches and winter stonefly emergences. Sunday gets quite warm and has a slim possibility of having olives hatch.
Stick with heavy, dark bodied nymphs in the morning, then switch over to dries when the fish begin to rise. Leeches and streamers will be great all day long with warming water as the fish will be a bit more active.
The key is to fish rising water temperatures. Once snowmelt hits the creeks and the temperatures drop, fishing slows down and can shut down completely.

The weekend ahead looks incredible. Saturday is pushing 40 degrees, and Sunday is pushing 50!
The only thing to watch out for is snow melt. What it gets to that 45+ mark, snow will start to melt rapidly and dump cold water (and potentially dirty water if it gets too hot) and will shut the fishing down. Saturday should be fine, but Sunday you might want to start a little earlier. 9-1 instead of 11-3.

Today is one of those days that fishing will be a ton of fun, but it is borderline. At 25 and sunny the stream beds will warm up enough to get bugs and fish moving and probably trigger a hatch (if the sun stays out). However, it is still very chilly and if the clouds move in it can shut things down quickly. So, if you are in the area, or just need to get outside, go fish! If you are planning on driving a bit, it might be better to wait until the weekend when the temperatures are in the 30s.

No snow, no cold, no worries!
Fishing has been fantastic the past few days with fish eating on the surface mid day, pounding nymphs early on, and switching to leeches in the afternoon and sometimes into the evening.
Midges and winter stoneflies are hatching at the warmest part of the day, typically around lunch time. They are still fussy and you have to get a darn near perfect drift, but they will eat.
Otherwise, drifting thin bodied and heavy nymphs subsurface is key. Focus on the spots below riffles as fish are in the runs feeding on hatching bugs until tomorrow when things cool down.
