February 29th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 48. Breezy, with a south wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph.
Yesterday’s chill was brutal, but things are starting to warm up on land, and under the surface of the water.
As the water starts warming up watch for more fish activity, especially mid day. We haven’t hit the magic 50 degrees yet (olives, stonefliy hatch etc) but are still seeing pods of fish feeding on midges and winter stoneflies on the surface.
Subsurface scuds, leeches and streamers have been the way to fish. A large scud with a small, thin bodied bug below has been excellent right below the riffles.
Creeks are very low and clear, and fish are spooky. Approach the water with caution!

February 28th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 21. Wind chill values as low as -9. Blustery, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Today and tomorrow are pretty much no goes for fishing. Cold and windy. Temperatures stabilize on Friday with a high near 53, and Saturday in the 60s. Weird, weird weather…
Creeks are very low and clear and fish are extremely spooky. Water temperatures have not gotten warm enough for olives and spring stones yet, we are still seeing midges and winter stoneflies though mid day, and fish are loving streamers and leeches fished slowly below the riffles.

February 27th Fishing Report

Increasing clouds, with a high near 65. South wind 6 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.
Tomorrow’s high dips to only 25. Fish today, then give it a couple days to warm up again!
Creeks are low and clear with temperatures in the mid 40s area wide. Hatches have been sparse lately, but we are seeing midges and winter stoneflies here and there still.
Leeches are still the key right now. While scuds and midge larvae are good subsurface too, trout seem to be keying in on leech patterns in the riffles and just below.

February 26th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 64. Breezy, with a southeast wind 13 to 18 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
Creeks are very low and very clear. Temperatures are in the low to mid 40s area wide. The nights are still a bit chilly and fishing doesn’t start picking up until a bit later in the mornings.
There are midges and a few winter stones out there, and with some of the warmer temperatures the next couple of days there is a chance to see some olives too.
Overall, fishing is difficult due to the clear, low water and sunny skies. We have not had much winter precipitation and could use some rain or snow!

February 20th Fishing Report

The shop is getting some painting done and will not be open until Saturday.

Sunny, with a high near 49. Southeast wind 9 to 14 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Creeks are low, clear, and in some cases weedy. The drought we were left with from last season is still here unfortunately with most of our area still in an extreme drought. We need more precipitation!

With the warmer weather, fishing has been ok. We’re seeing a few midges and winter stoneflies hatching and even a smattering of olives too. Subsurface fishing has been best dead drifting leech patterns and twitching them every once in a while. Scuds and pink squirrels have also been effective below riffles. We still have a little snow on the ground that is slowly melting, so make sure to continue to use your thermometer. Once snowmelt hits the creeks and water temperature stops climbing or starts dropping, the fishing slows down to a crawl.

February 19th Updates

Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph.
Shop will be closed this week until Saturday. Online and pickup orders only. You can place an online order and mark it as “in store pickup” or email us any orders.
Creeks are very low and clear. There is some snow on the ground that will start melting today and tomorrow. It isn’t enough to really muddy things up, but it will drop water temperatures.
Mid week and going into the weekend, the weather looks quite nice. Fishing is still decent, with water temperatures in the low 40s. It has not really taken off yet, as we need a bit warmer water, or a brief spike in water temperature to get the bugs going.

February 14th Fishing Report

Increasing clouds, with a high near 45. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.
Another unseasonably warm day today. Creeks are very low and clear with temperatures in the low 40s. Fishing remains difficult due to the slow flows and crystal clear water.
Tonight we are forecasted to get some much needed snow. Our creeks are still in drought condition and the recent warm and dry spell have not helped that at all!
The weather turns colder again (highs in the high 20s) after today, so until Sunday or Monday we do not recommend traveling far to fish!

February 12th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 40. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph.
Creeks are VERY low and clear with temperatures in the low 40s. Banks are free of all snow, the ground is dry.
Fish are incredibly spooky with the bright sun and low water. We really need some precipitation. I had read that Nashville has had more snow this winter than Minneapolis!
Trout will rise mid day to midges and winter stones, and we have even seen some blue winged olives already too. Subsurface fishing is easier as trout are less spooky below the surface. Focus on scuds and pink squirrels below the riffles in the shin to thigh deep water that has some current.

January 31st Weekly outlook

Creeks are clear to stained and a bit low. Temperatures are in the high 30s to low 40s for the next few days.

The weather is excellent to be outside in! The fishing remains just ok. The slow melting keeps water temperatures pretty stable, and in the winter we really need a pop in temperatures to kick start the hatch and trout activity. It isn’t terrible out there, but we are finding an hour to an hour and a half of solid fishing right now (approximately mid day).

The shop will be open on Saturday, 7 days a week starts early in March!

Remember to email us with any questions as we are not always in the shop to answer voicemails.

January 29th Fishing Report

Patchy dense fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph.
It’s still winter out there. While it is great to be outside instead of cooped up inside, don’t expect fantastic fishing. You will run into a fish or two, and maybe chance into a midge hatch.
Water temperatures are quite favorable for this time of year, the problem we run into is that a very slow melt is happening all day and sometimes through the night. This keeps the water temps from rising quickly and triggering bug and trout activity. The window of fishing opportunity is between 11 and 1 right now.

Shop is open Saturdays during the winter from 10-2. Always open online!
