Fishing Report

We have not received any rain since early in the springtime. Creeks are extremely low and starting to warm up to levels that can be lethal to trout. Please remember to use a thermometer. Anything over 65 will be slow fishing. 68 and above can kill trout.

We’re putting temporary hours into effect starting July 1. We encourage you to fish very early in the day, then swing by to grab your gear and let the trout rest mid day. In the evening, fishing can pick up again, but please make sure to check temperatures.

Fishing Reports will also slow down a bit. Remember your terrestrials with droppers and watch for fish rising to rusty spinners in the mornings (and possibly tricos soon) and generic mayflies in the evening (we like klinkhammers this time of year)

Widespread haze before 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.

Still no rain. Creeks are starting to warm up a bit (as they normally do this time of year) so please use your thermometer. Anything over 65 is probably a bad idea to fish.
The morning fishing has still been viable, but not great. Evenings are typically the last hour or maybe two before the sun goes down. This hot and dry year is not great for trout fishing in the Driftless. While there are still fish to be caught and creeks that can be fished responsibly, it might not be a bad idea to postpone trips until we get a cold front or, more importantly, some rains.

A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 4pm. Widespread haze before 11am, then widespread haze after noon. Areas of smoke between 11am and noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
The predicted rain keeps disappearing. Creeks are incredibly low and clear. Fishing is very rough right now despite the temperatures still being good on all but the larger waters.
It feels like the movie groundhog day, so we’re just going to repeat yesterday’s report:

Smoky skies today, mixed with full sun. We should get back to cloud cover an hopefully some rain tomorrow!

Scattered showers, mainly between 11am and 4pm. Widespread haze before 2pm. Areas of smoke between 11am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Breezy, with a northwest wind 9 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
We only had about half to 3/4 of an inch over the weekend. Not nearly enough to flush the creeks or drop temperatures unfortunately.
Fishing is better with this cold front and cloud cover, with fish eating beetles and ants and even small hoppers on the surface during the day. Mornings and evenings are fishing well on film stars and klinkhammers.
Subsurface has been good with scuds while clouds are in the sky, then small and thin bodied bugs when the sun is shining.

Hot, sunny, clear water…..Fish early/late… These reports are sounding like a broken record!
The good news is we are forecasted to get a little bit of drizzle this weekend and a pretty significant drop in temperatures back to normal! While the rain is not supposed to be a lot, any little bit will help. However, in the near future night time temperatures in the low 50s will help quite a bit, especially the morning half of the day.
Things are still tough out there with the mornings fishing well, mid day being almost unbearable with the heat, and the last hour or two of evening fishing well too.
We’re still getting some sporadic hatches here and there. Carrying some film stars in a light body color and a dark body color is a good idea as you will cover most everything out there. Otherwise, beetles and hippie stompers with a dropper, or an ant is catching quite a few fish. Don’t grease up the ant and let it sink a bit!

It’s the same as it has been for weeks… Hot and sunny with low clear water. The overnight temperatures are now pretty warm and we are making sure to watch water temperatures. Please use your thermometer and avoid fishing anything over 65 degrees.
There is a slim chance of some summer rain this weekend (and we NEED it!).
At this point, fishing is still decent in the mornings, but things are pretty rough on trout and anglers in the evenings. Find some upper sections of smaller creeks near the springs for your best results.

Sunny, with a high near 88. Light southeast wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
Creeks are exceptionally low as we have had only an inch of rain in over two months. Temperatures are still stable on most of the smaller creeks in the monrings, but things are heating up quickly. Please use a thermometer and avoid fishing anything over 65. Focus on the morning and very late evening, shaded creeks, and smaller waters close to the springs.
Terrestrials are key right now on the surface with ants and beetles working well. Smaller training wheels (chubby chernobyls) with a zebra midge or purdrygon below are our go to when fish are not rising. We do still have a few sparse hatches of lighter colored mayflies and craneflies out there too.
The major limiting factor right now is still shade and associated water temperature. Hope for rain and use your thermometers!

Creeks are very low and clear with temperatures in the high 50s to mid 60s.
We did get some rain last night (up to an inch in a couple places!). While this is good news for our gardens, it will not yet move the needle on the creeks. The ground is so dry that the vast majority was soaked up by the ground. Even so, it is a relief to finally see some real rain fall!
Fishing is still best early and late with the mid day sun making fish spooky and unhappy.
Fish are rising to a handful of lighter colored mayflies, caddis and cranes especially in the evenings. During the day, a beetle or small hopper with a thin bead head below is still working very well.
