Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 55. South wind 5 to 7 mph.
Excellent winter conditions for a few more days. Subsurface fishing has been solid on pheasant tails, midge larvae, purple drank, and mini leeches.
A few dries here and there, mostly midges, but with the warm weekend we have seen one or two blue winged olive mayflies hatching too.
Focus on mid day when the water temperature is climbing for the best fishing. The water is very clear and a bit low, so hit spots where there is some broken or choppy water to give you a stealthier edge.

Sunny, with a high near 51. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph.
Creeks overall are ice free (especially those in open meadows) and flowing with water temperatures in the middle to higher 30s. This warm spell has fish and bugs in a pretty good mood for the wintertime! Remember, this is still winter fishing. While we can find some happy fish during the period of time water temperature is rising (approximately 10-2_, it can still shut off quickly once the water starts to cool down. Make sure to use your thermometer regularly.
. Midges, winter stones, and even some blue winged olives have been spotted mid day. The best fishing is subsurface right below the riffles though. As the sun warms the streamed, the bugs in the riffles start to move around and trout will start to move into feeding positions right below those riffles.

Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
Not too terrible today and tomorrow with highs in the upper 30s. However we are keeping an eye on later this week and into the weekend when temperatures will be in the 40s to almost 50 degrees. As long as the little snow we have on the banks does not let go all at once, this could be a fun winter weekend.
As always, water temperature is key. You want to fish a rising water temperature, once things cool down naturally, or snowmelt enters the creek, things shut down quickly.
Midges, winter stoneflies, and leeches are on the menu right now.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. South wind 7 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
. Creeks are mostly ice free, and running in the high 30s. Sporadic midge hatches mid day and a few winter stoneflies as well, but most of the activity is subsurface on perdigons and small pink squirrels. Leeches are effective dead drifted below riffles too.
It is winter time. Don’t expect crazy good fishing, but if you hit the water during rising temperatures (roughly from 10-2) you can have some decent fishing and get rid of a bit of cabin fever right now!

A chance of flurries before noon. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a temperature falling to around 26 by 5pm. Breezy, with a southwest wind 8 to 13 mph becoming northwest 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph.
Windy, Wisconsin winter warmup happening today. Tomorrow we are looking at sun and 23 (still acceptable conditions) and early next week we see temperatures touching 40 degrees.
The shop will be open on Saturday, Monday-Wednesday and perhaps beyond if the weather holds. Shop will be open 8-1, and Mat will be willing to make some deals on last year’s stock!
Midges are around mid day, along with a smattering of winter stoneflies. The hatches are not super strong, so do not go out expecting much on the surface. Trout are happily feeding subsurface on smaller, thin bodied black nymphs as well as scuds.
Please remember that air temperatures are still below freezing in many cases, and the gills and eyes and other parts of trout can flash freeze if you take them out of the water!

Wisconsin warm weather is coming! Today and tomorrow we are in the mid 30s for a high. Early next week we have high 30s to low 40s… Shop will be open Saturday 8-1 as well as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8-1. If the weather stays warm, we will stay open! It’s winter in Wisconsin. And it is too cold to fish effectively. Looking ahead, only Sunday is forecasted to be over 20 degrees for a high temperature.

Stay home, tie flies, or plan a trip to somewhere warm!

Real winter has returned to Wisconsin. From this Saturday to next temperatures barely reach above the mid teen and there will be clouds most days. We recommend staying home and staying warm.

Creeks are clear and a bit low, with very little snowpack on the banks. We are getting a warming trend through Friday with highs touching 40 degrees. Some good fishing conditions for wintertime! Just watch the snowmelt. If things get too warm then cold and muddy water enters the creeks and shuts things down.

Not horribly cold this weekend, but not exactly great weather for anglers until Wednesday.

Next weekend looks amazing with temps around 40 degrees!

Creeks are flowing low with a little snow on the banks. The warmer temperatures mid week will cause some melting which will slow things down quite a bit, and potentially put some cold, stained water into the system if it gets too warm.

Focus on fishing mid day, approximately between 10 and 2 when the water temperature is rising.
