Creeks are EXTREMELY low and clear which is hurting the fishing, especially on the small headwater creeks. The middle and lower sections are fishing well as water temperatures are cool to cold area wide. Fishing is slowly picking up as the olive hatch strengthens and terrestrials continue to get fish to eat.
It is not the best fishing the Driftless can offer, but the cool weather and partial cloud cover is helping things quite a bit!

Creeks are still extremely low due to our ongoing drought. The little rain we received yesterday was not enough to change the flow levels unfortunately.
The good news is that the fishing is picking up with the cooler temperatures recently. This trend is going to continue through the week.
Olives have started to appear and fishing to sipping fish is not uncommon in the afternoon and evening now. Terrestrials are still fishing strong, and the subsurface game is picking up on purple drank, scuds, and pheasant tails.

We’re still in a major drought and the creeks are very low and clear with spooky trout! The water temperatures are no longer an issue as this cooler late summer weather settles in. It is incredibly pleasant to be outside right now.
The fishing is still difficult, although getting better daily. The low flows are still holding things back, but terrestrials are strong, and we are starting to see the beginning of the BWO hatch show up later in the day.

Creeks are extremely low and clear, but with the cooler weather the temperatures are very good right now!
Terrestrials are still the main menu item and a well placed beetle or hopper plopped near the riffle and close to the bank gives you a good shot at some aggressive fish.
We’re also starting to do well again on droppers. Purple drank, purdygons and small coulee scuds are getting fish in the runs below the riffles.
In the evenings we have started to see some olives. While we will not call it a hatch yet, there are fish sipping dries in the riffles and runs.
The long term forecast is looking very trout friendly. Cool temperatures and we may even get a bit of rain early next week!

While we still have had little to no rain and the creeks are extremely low, this cooler trend has trout in a much better mood than the past month (or 4!)
The low temperatures tonight and tomorrow night are not even reaching 50 degrees.
The cloud cover has helped a ton too. Fish are more comfortable in the ultra low and clear water, attacking smaller terrestrials and sipping some dries in the evenings.
While overall fishing is still not as great as it normally is, this weather pattern (which should hold through early next week with only Saturday approaching 80 degrees) is a blessing for trout fishing during this drought season!

We did not get any rain last night, and the creeks remain extremely low and clear. The good news is that the cooler weather for the next few days should put the trout in a bit happier mood and we could see some olives hatching in the later afternoon and into evening.
The entire mid week looks more than pleasant with temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s. Even more important we will see lows at night near 50 degrees!
Terrestrials are the main menu item, and we have started to see a smattering of olives hatching later in the day. A beetle with an olive emerger the last couple of hours of the day has been fantastic!

Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 96. Breezy, with a south wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph.
We are in an extreme drought and the creeks are very, very low and clear. Fish are quite spooky.
Please make sure to use your thermometer, while the smaller creeks are still running at temperatures near 60, some of the larger creeks (especially after the hot weekend) are into the 70s. If you find water over 65 degrees it is a good idea to change locations.
The rest of the week looks very pleasant with highs in the low 70s and lows getting below 50! This will, at least, put the fish in a better mood.

Just a quick update. The heat wave will last through tomorrow (Tuesday September 5th). Starting Wednesday, things begin to cool off. If we actually get the rain on Wednesday, that could help invigorate the fishing after this hot weather.

We’re still super low on water and the cool weather the past few days will be quickly forgotten as things heat up for the weekend. Fish super early in the morning, as water temperatures will climb quickly before mid day. Please remember to use your thermometer as some of the larger creeks are quite warm. If you do some exploring of smaller creeks and headwaters, you can find temperatures below 60 degrees, but it takes a bit of thinking outside the normal, well known creeks. A good use of the mid day heat (after a siesta) is to scout a location or two!
