March 16th Fishing Report

A slight chance of rain before 11am, then a slight chance of rain after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 41. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Fishing has been quite good lately! While the weather is pretty average temperature wise, water temps are in the high 30s to mid 40s.
Fish have been eating on the surface well on many of our area creeks in the later part of the day. We found happy fish from 1-4 yesterday! Midges are still key as it isn’t quite warm enough throughout the area for olives to show up consistently.
Otherwise, fish are eating subsurface on nymphs and leeches drifted slowly. If we get clouds in the sky or a stain on the water, streamers are working well too.

March 14th Fishing Report

Cloudy, with a high near 36. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph.
Creeks are clear to slightly stained. There is very little snow left on the banks so we are fishing from the late morning through most of the day now. Only a few streams are still getting cold water runoff in the afternoons.
Midges are still the major hatch with a few olives here and there. Water temperatures are in the high 30s to low 40s. In the 30s we are seeing midges, in the 40s we are seeing olives.
Otherwise, leech and streamer fishing has been fantastic lately with a lot of fish finally feeling grabby on larger patterns.
As always, rolling a heavy bead head on the bottom will catch fish all day long. We are starting to see an uptick in interest in scuds as well

March 13th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 41. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Windy today, but the sun is shining early and fish are already awake.
Olives are hatching fairly well. It isn’t a crazy blanket hatch, but fish will be looking up for the mid day and into the afternoon (midges too!)
Subsurface fishing early is great, heavy bead heads like the surrender jig and spanish bullet are our favorites right now.
After the hatch subsides, fish are chasing leeches and streamers. You can move them pretty quickly now too that water temperatures are over 40.

March 12th Fishing Report

Much more rain than predicted has the creeks running murky as of noon. While there is still some fishable water, things are ugly out there right now. The good news is it should settle down by tomorrow and into the weekend.

Rain, mainly before 3pm. Patchy fog before 11am. High near 50. Breezy, with a south wind 17 to 20 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
A bit miserable today, then windy through tomorrow. The good news is that is calms down and becomes pleasant for the weekend with highs right around 40.
Olives, midges, and a few winter stoneflies are hatching and emerging daily, and mid day the fish are starting to come to the surface to eat. Otherwise, deep rolling scuds, and heavy thin bodied bead heads is still working just fine!
Also, as the water temperatures stay at 40 or above, fish are becoming much more grabby on streamers and leeches.
Creeks are clear and will get a little stained up in the afternoons. There is little to no snow on the banks and what is melting is in shaded areas and north facing slopes.

March 11th Fishing Report

Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Light and variable wind.
Creeks are clear in the mornings and will get a slight stain as the last of the snow melts slowly. We really only have snow in shaded areas and north facing slopes. Our ‘runoff’ is over.
We’re seeing midges, winter stoneflies, and blue winged olives hatching as water temperatures are in the 40s now.
Subsurface fishing continues to be excellent on subsurface bugs that are thin and dark bodied. We just got in another batch of flies and will be adding them to the web shopping page soon!
Leeches and streamers are also doing well especially in the afternoons after the hatches subside.

March 9th Fishing Report

Rain. High near 47. West wind 6 to 8 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Warm and drizzly today. The melting will continue. It was nowhere near as bad as we first thought. While it did slow down fishing, it didn’t cause any crazy flooding or ruin fishing yesterday until the afternoon. Expect creeks to be stained to murky for another day or two. The good news is most of the snow has melted, leaving only shaded areas and north facing slops with snow on them.
In these conditions, your best bet is throwing a leech pattern or san juan worm. Make sure you check water temperatures, and spend some time looking at different creeks. There is some good water out there, but it is not everywhere due to snowmelt.

March 6th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 39. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light northwest in the afternoon.
We have started to see real runoff (cold and mud) on the small creeks in the afternoon.
Good news: It re-froze overnight
Bad news: It’s going to be warm the next few days.

Today looks good still, we expect decent conditions through the day today and expect to see some runoff this afternoon.
Tomorrow will be very warm and sunny and things will start to melt quickly.
Sunday is downright balmy and the melt off will not re-freeze overnight which means we expect the rivers to be murky and cold.

Deep nymphing, midge hatches and maybe olives Saturday before the snow lets go.

The melt has started!

It started sooner than expected but our guides today started to see a significant amount of muddy snowmelt hitting the creeks this afternoon. With the warmer temperatures and lack of re-freezing overnight, the situation has changed quite a bit for the weekend outlook. Quality fishing is questionable right now for the next few days. We will keep you posted here and on social media.

March 5th Fishing Report

Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 37. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Creeks are low and clear and the fish are spooky!
So far snowmelt has not impacted creeks heavily. You can still successfully fish from 9-3. Once the water temperature drops in the afternoon the fishing shuts down.
We are still seeing fish rising daily to midges and winter stoneflies. It is not warm enough to see olives again until maybe Saturday.
Subsurface fishing has been fantastic on pretty much anything rolled along the bottom.

**Sunday looks questionable** While the weather will be incredibly pleasant, Saturday’s snowmelt will not subside overnight as it will not re-freeze. Sunday might be a day to break out the larger streamers and squirmy wormies!

March 4th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 41. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Things have been so much fun this March. Perfect winter conditions to fish mid day. Make sure you are fishing rising water temperature. Once snowmelt hits the creeks the fishing shuts down. Typically the best fishing is between 9 and 2.
Spanish bullets, zebra midges, surrender jigs and simple black copper johns are doing very well subsurface. On the surface, miracle midges, massacre midges and simple parachute adams are catching fish.
Look for rising fish in the afternoons on the tailouts of pools.
Creeks are low and clear (normal for winter) and the fish are spooky. Make sure to approach with as much stealth as possible!
