Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Light west wind becoming northwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.
Nothing too crazy out there fishing wise. Trout are still happily eating subsurface all day long. Thinner bodied patterns early, then switching to thicker bodied bugs later in the day.
Mid day and into the afternoon we are getting some hatch activity. Craneflies and caddis. The gunch and front end loaders have been fishing quite well.
Heads up. We are closing at 2:30 today. Extended May hours start tomorrow.
Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Northwest wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
Creeks are clear to stained with temperatures in the lower 50s. Fish are eating subsurface on thin bodied bugs with a lot of flash and caddis pupae. In the afternoons skittering some caddis or craneflies can be effective to get rising fish to eat.
Nothing super special about the week. Fishing is solid, but keep in mind with the sunny weather and clearer water, trout are very spooky!
Cloudy through mid morning, then becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
We get a break from some rain, and the rollercoaster temperatures for a few days! Stable weather all week long it looks like.
The rains yesterday were not heavy, nor did they put more than 1/4 of an inch into the system. A light soaking rain that did nothing to the creeks.
Overall creeks are clear to slightly stained with water temperatures in the lower 50s. We’re doing well on nightmare perdigons and zebra midges as well as a coulee scud below a beetle. On the surface we are seeing a few caddis flies (mostly black) in the afternoons
Showers and thunderstorms before 4pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 4pm and 5pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 5pm. High near 66. Breezy, with a southeast wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
. Creeks are clear to slightly stained with temperatures in the low 50s. We’re seeing a few caddis, both black and tan, but the majority of action is subsurface on caddis larvae, scuds, and thin bodied bugs.
There might be some rain coming through, and it is forecasted to be a pretty quick cell. If it is heavy enough or lingers long enough we will let you know, but it doesn’t look like it will mess with fishing much.
All the rumors you have ever heard about Patagonia and its incredible fishing, they are all true! Join us as we return to one of our favorite places on the planet to chase trout in some of the best trout water in the world.
When the snow is blowing and temperatures are frigid at home, we travel to northern Patagonia to warm up and fish on the storied rivers and lakes of Argentina. Each year we run into some great dry fishing with afternoon hatches and fish looking up for attractors and even terrestrials!
From day floats or walk and wade trips, to fishing the lakes during the dragonfly hatch (watching huge fish smash big dries is an experience you shouldn’t miss), to overnight glamping, this trip will give you the full taste of fishing Patagonia.
You will stay in private casitas (each angler gets their own room) and have coffee delivered to you each morning. You can watch fish rise in the spring pond and look out at the Lanin volcano off in the distance while you get ready for the fishing day.
After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at the lodge in the morning and take you out to your fishing destination for the day.
After the day ends you are returned to the lodge and will enjoy some of the finest local cuisine and wines prepared by the trained, professional chefs on staff. Expect to come home a couple pounds heavier after enjoying the excellent food and wine!
Part of the week of fishing includes a two day, overnight camping float. You float into your high end campground at the end of the day and are handed appetizers and offered something from the bar table. The hard working staff has everything set up and food cooking before you arrive. Each angler gets their own tent with a comfortable mattress on a cot and sleeping bag. There is a shower tent, bathroom tent, dining tent, and some of the best campfire food you will ever have!
We travel this time of the year to take advantage of the dragonfly hatch on the lakes. Casting from the boat into the crystal clear glacial lakes and watching huge trout come up to crush your large dry fly is a day not to be missed. Without fail, when people first come on the trip they hesitate to fish the lakes as they don’t see it as being like fishing moving water. After they get back from their lake experience, they are ready to fish the lakes again the next day.
This truly is a trip of a lifetime! Not only will you experience the incredible and abundant fishing that Patagonia has to offer, but you will feel like part of the family with our outfitters and guides. From wine tasting, to local music or a tango demonstration at dinner you will experience the best that Argentina has to offer while sampling some of the best trout rivers in the world!
A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. Breezy, with a southeast wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Rains coming tonight and into tomorrow. It does not look like anything major, but we will keep you updated. The rainy spring has fish in an incredible mood right now.
Leeches and drank. Scuds and squirrels.
Watch for black caddis on the surface (coulee caddis)
Sunny, with a high near 55. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Excellent winter conditions for a few more days. Subsurface fishing has been solid on pheasant tails, midge larvae, purple drank, and mini leeches. A few dries here and there, mostly midges, but with the warm weekend we have seen one or two blue winged olive mayflies hatching too. Focus on mid day when the water temperature is climbing for the best fishing. The water is very clear and a bit low, so hit spots where there is some broken or choppy water to give you a stealthier edge.
Sunny, with a high near 51. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph. Creeks overall are ice free (especially those in open meadows) and flowing with water temperatures in the middle to higher 30s. This warm spell has fish and bugs in a pretty good mood for the wintertime! Remember, this is still winter fishing. While we can find some happy fish during the period of time water temperature is rising (approximately 10-2_, it can still shut off quickly once the water starts to cool down. Make sure to use your thermometer regularly. . Midges, winter stones, and even some blue winged olives have been spotted mid day. The best fishing is subsurface right below the riffles though. As the sun warms the streamed, the bugs in the riffles start to move around and trout will start to move into feeding positions right below those riffles.
APRIL 2026 will split between the exclusive and remote waters of the Ibera marsh, and hunting big fish on the upper Parana!
Join us chasing the world’s best fish! We split the trip between hunting huge fish on the Upper Parana and the exclusive water paradise of the Ibera Marsh or the double whammy of the Isoro Marsh and Middle Parana. We are fortunate enough to cater the trip to the best conditions and offer two different experiences in the same week!
The trip takes advantage of spring or fall in Argentina, meaning you do not have to deal with the heat and bugs.
Dorado are what every fish wants to be. Explosive takes on the surface on crease flies or deceiver style flies (we fish floating lines the whole trip, with bead chain eyes being the heaviest fly fished!) and fights that are measured not on if they jump, but how many times they jump! It’s as if someone mixed bass, pike, muskie, barracuda and tarpon and made them 10 times more aggressive.
There is no other outfitter that can offer fishing a mix of the Ibera Marsh, the Upper Parana, and a lodge on the Isoro marsh and middle Parana. Your trip will be custom fit to offer you the absolute best dorado fishing. You are not stuck in one location seeing the same place or stuck with poor conditions, the flexibility our trip offers is beyond compare. It is truly a trip of a lifetime.
Trip cost is $7000 based on double occupancy. The cost includes lodging, food, all drinks, guided fishing, ground transportation to/from/between lodges. Does not include airfare and gratuity.
Please call or e-mail the shop for more details and take a look below for the itinerary.
Mat is obsessed with dorado and calls these fish the most fun you will ever have on a fly rod.
Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Not too terrible today and tomorrow with highs in the upper 30s. However we are keeping an eye on later this week and into the weekend when temperatures will be in the 40s to almost 50 degrees. As long as the little snow we have on the banks does not let go all at once, this could be a fun winter weekend. As always, water temperature is key. You want to fish a rising water temperature, once things cool down naturally, or snowmelt enters the creek, things shut down quickly. Midges, winter stoneflies, and leeches are on the menu right now.
