St. Croix is a Wisconsin company designing and producing rods that fit our fisheries! They aren’t just guessing when they make a small stream rod for the driftless, or a bigger stick for smallmouth and muskies, they know the Midwest!!!
Their new top of the line EVOS rods are some of the finest rods we have ever fished and casted, while their budget friendly CONNECT series gives you an incredible rod with enough money in your pocket to enjoy Friday Night Fish Fry.
In celebration of their new rod lineup we are offering the following gift packages (to be picked up in store) from November 1 to March 1.
With a new EVOS rod you get: a dozen guide’s choice flies, long sleeve cow t-shirt, 6-pack of spotted cow, local cheese curds and a Driftless Provisions sausage.
CONNECT rod gets you a bag of local curds and a dozen guide’s choice flies. Can you get any more Wisconsin?
6 pack only available for 21 years and older. Substitute Wisco pop for spotted cow for those who prefer. Rods will ship for free, all other items to be picked up at Driftless Angler.

A string of cold days and a dusting of snow remind us that winter is right around the corner.
Wisconsin’s season is closed. Iowa is still open, but we recommend sticking to the stocked rainbow trout creeks as the brown trout are spawning and we suggest leaving them alone during the spwan. Minnesota’s state parks are still open to fishing as well.
The Driftless dorado tour starts again in early November, watch our social media (and doradoflyfishing’s instagram page) for updates. If you ever wanted to fish freshwater dorado, let us know! We have been hosting trips for the for years now and are totally addicted. April 6-13 2024 is our next upcoming dorado trip, but we can you chasing them anytime you want.
We will not have store hours until around the holidays, so please remember to shop online, and call or e-mail the shop with any questions.

Nothing too exciting this week. Potential for an inch or two of rain (still very much needed!) tomorrow.
Iowa has been fishing decently with sparse hatches but great subsurface activity. If you are heading out to fish, please leave spawning brown trout alone.
We will highlight an item or two each week for off season sales. This week is our super comfy performance pro full zip hoodie (you probably saw Mat wearing his pretty much every chilly morning!)
Thank you all for your support again this season.
There is no fishing allowed until the first Saturday in January.
During the off season we will have limited hours. We will be taking a week break, but will be answering emails and phone calls daily after that. If you have any questions at all, the best way to contact us is via email.
Just a quick rain updated. The rains fell much more gently than we expected and scouting water mid day today was surprising. There is much more fishable water out there (clear to medium stain) than we expected, The forecast is calling for drizzle the rest of the day and tomorrow so clarity overall should not be an issue.
The wind, however, is brutal gusting in the mid 30 mph.
The outlook for the last couple days of season is brighter than we were expecting.
Showers, mainly after 2pm. High near 53. Breezy, with an east wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Today and through tomorrow we will have high winds and a chance of some much needed rain showers. While this will be excellent for the creeks, it will not be so favorable to anglers.
Today through Saturday the wind will be gusting from 30-40 miles per hour and rains from anywhere between 1/2 and inch today to 2 inches on Friday might fall. Not the best way to wrap up the last few days of season!
In high winds and cloud cover, leeches and streamers work well as you do not have to accurately cast to get fish to eat! If you find some shelter, subsurface fishing will be solid on scuds, pink squirrels and purple drank. This also holds true if the water muddies up on Friday and into Saturday. The above mentioned flies as well as squirmy wormies will catch fish in limited visibility water.
sunny, with a high near 60. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Quick weather forecast:
Today looks nice, tomorrow and through Saturday the forecast is for rain and breezy. Friday might see up to 2 inches of rain. Brain your rain jacket for the last few days of season (we have some on end of year sale here in the shop too!)
Creeks are clear and low with temperatures in the low 50s. Excellent fishing conditions for the fall despite the low flows.
Nymphs and leeches first thing in the morning fished under a big foam pattern (edible indicator). As the sun comes out and warms things up, more fish will start to eat the foam terrestrial. In the afternoon we are seeing fish rise to olives. While it is not an incredible hatch, there are pods of rising fish on most of our creeks.
Mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Northwest wind 5 to 13 mph.
Creeks are low and clear with excellent fall water temperatures. Fishing starts slowly as the mornings have been cold, but starts to gain momentum around 9 or 10. Terrestrials with a dropper all day long, and we are seeing more and more sipping the little olive mayflies off the surface in the afternoon/evening.
With the cooler weather, the leech and streamer bite has been a bit better too.
Season ends after the 15th of october and is closed until the first Saturday in january.
