July 3-6 Fishing Report/Forecast
It’s summer in the Driftless, which means getting up at dawn and trout fishing like crazy until about 10 or 11 when things start getting warm.
We have been fortunate enough to have some decent water temperatures for this time of year. The smaller, headwater creeks are still right around 60 degrees. Only the big waters have hit the mid 60 mark consistently.
With the warmup heading into the weekend things will slow down a bit, however Saturday (night especially) we are supposed to get a summer rain shower that will cool things down and put some cold water into the system (hopefully). Focus on Sunday morning for the best fishing according to the weather forecast.
It’s foam and dropper time here. Fish a beetle, hippie stomper, or other foam terrestrial with a bead head below all day long. There are some sparse hatches in the last couple hours of daylight. Nothing a parachute or simple caddis imitation can’t match well.
Mousing has been good, as have medium sized streamers at night.
