April 14th Fishing Report

A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 5pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 53. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.
Creeks are in good shape, clear but low with temperatures in the mid to high 40s. With some warmer weather we will probably see the 50 degree temperature mark a few times late this week.
Blue winged olive mayflies are still hatching well in the afternoon, as are black caddis. Watch for risers mostly after lunchtime, although on cloudier days the mayflies can spread out through most of the day.
Subsurface fishing is bug soup. Mostly anything will work with a good drift below a riffle right now. Streamers are starting to catch more fish as the water temps are warm enough for trout to chase larger meals (and for the larger meals to be moving around)

April 12th Fishing Report

Mostly sunny, with a high near 62. South wind 5 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
Creeks are clear and low with temperatures in the mid to high 40s.
Olives are hatching on most creeks in the afternoons, and we are expecting to see the caddis hatch at any time, especially as things slowly warm up.
Subsurface fishing has been good on larger nymphs and leeches in the mornings, followed by small thin bodied bugs in the riffles in the afternoon and evenings.

April 11th Fishing Report

Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph.
Creeks clear and low. Water temps are mid to high 40s, we are almost to the 50 degree mark which is classically the start of the caddis hatch.
Fishing low and slow in the mornings in the deeper runs, then moving into shallower water as the day progresses.
We are seeing olives in the afternoons, the spring stoneflies are still around, and we are expecting caddis to start anytime now.
Subsurface fishing has started to be more successful on thinner bodied bugs like perditions and midge larvae. However, the leech and micro streamer fishing is still strong.

April 10th Fishing Report

Isolated showers. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Southeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Creeks are clear and low, with temperatures in the high 40s area wide.
The cloud cover today will help the already strong olive hatch. While the mayflies are not present everywhere and all the time, we are seeing rising fish and hatching bugs mostly in the later afternoons pretty consistently. If olive colored bugs aren’t working, try purple!
Subsurface fishing will also pick up with the cloud cover this morning. Scuds, mini leeches, and caddis larvae are all solid right now.
The caddis hatch is not here yet, but with the warmer weekend approaching, we may start to see a few appear here and there.

April 8th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 45. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.
Even in yesterday’s cold and high wind, the olives were hatching well! Today is much more stable weather wise. We’re seeing fish being a bit sluggish in the early mornings, then starting to feed subsurface as the sun warms the water a bit. Finally, in the afternoon trout are making the push into the riffles to feed on emerging olives. (don’t be afraid of fishing an unweighted leech in the riffles during the hatch, you could be surprised!)
Creeks are clear overall with water temps in the mid to high 40s.

April 7th Fishing Report

A chance of flurries, mixing with sprinkles after 2pm, then gradually ending. Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Breezy, with a north wind 8 to 13 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph.
A bit of a chilly start to the week with some gusty winds. Things calm down mid week.
The fishing has been quite good lately. Creeks are clear with water temperatures in the mid 40s on average. We’re still finding the fishing better in the later morning after things have warmed up a bit, and into the afternoon when we are seeing blue winged olives hatching.
Subsurface fishing remains solid all day long.

April 5th Fishing Report

Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 44. Breezy, with a northwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
Tomorrow (Sunday) will be a bit warmer and sunnier.
Creeks are clear and low with temperatures in the mid to high 40s. The afternoons have given us some olive hatches and we are still seeing some spring stoneflies. It is still a bit early for the caddis hatch, we need warmer water temperatures for those to appear.
The fish are in pretty favorable moods, feeding well subsurface on a mix of flashy nymphs, leeches and small streamers. They are in the thigh deep water with cover early in the morning, then pushing up into the riffles and shallower water in the afternoon as the hatches begin to come off.

April 4th Fishing Report

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. East wind 5 to 7 mph.
Creeks are clear and still a bit low. We did not get a lot of rain in the last storm a few days ago. Water temps are in the mid to high 40s on average.
Micro streamers and leeches have been great lately! Rounding up the subsurface fishing with scuds and caddis larvae will catch fish all day long.
Hatches have been around, but lately it has been too windy for any good dry fly activity. Today should be much better. Watch for olives and spring stoneflies in the afternoon.

April 3rd Fishing Report

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
After the precipitation yesterday, things are in much better shape than we expected. The ground is so dry that is soaked up most of the water leaving most creeks clear! Fishing was solid on mid sized nymphs as well as smaller leeches and streamers. There was a bit of an olive (mayfly) hatch but the wind made dry fly fishing difficult. The same should be expected today for the hatch.

April 2nd Fishing Report

Rain and thunderstorms before 4pm, then a chance of rain. High near 58. Breezy, with an east wind 18 to 24 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
In the past 24 hours we have received about half to almost an inch of precipitation. Last night it snowed, then switched to rain. That rain is melting things and putting some color in most of our creeks. We’re forecasted mostly for drizzle through the day today so things should stabilize and even potentially clear up quickly.
There is fishable water out there, not a lot, but it exists.
The ground is warm enough that fishing a san juan or squirmy wormy as well as leeches and scuds in the stained to murky water will be successful.
