Fishing Report

Partly sunny, with a high near 49. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph.
Creeks are clear and flowing just a bit low with temperatures in the high 40s to mid 50. Spring temps in both the air and the water have stabilized.
We are seeing fish rising pretty much all later afternoon and into evening. Caddis (mostly black but a few tan), olives, and larger mayflies along with spring stoneflies are all showing up here and there. Remember splashy rises are caddis feeders while sipping rises are mayflies.
When fish are not rising, we are fishing size 16 training wheels or hippie stompers (to imitate the spring stoneflies) with a bead head below. Purple drank is the best right now, with scuds and squirrels following close second. The thin bodied bugs such as purdygons and pheasant tails are best in the clear and slower water, while the thicker patterns are picking up more fish in the riffles.

Scattered rain and snow showers before 1pm, then a slight chance of rain showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Light and variable wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
While the fishing was still good, the weather last week was anything but consistent. It is forecasted to calm down a bit this coming week.
We are still seeing olives pretty much daily with a hatch in the later morning and a spinner fall in the evening. Caddis are also showing up a bit again hatching in the later afternoon.
If not surface activity is visible, fishing a smaller (16) foam pattern with a bead head below has been very effective below the riffles. Leeches and streamers especially in baitfish colors (suckers and chubs are spawning) are good now too.

Creeks are clear! The ground was even thirstier than we expected and no rain outside of yesterday morning has left the vast majority of our waters clear to slightly stained.
We are seeing a mix of caddis and mayflies hatching daily with rising fish showing up mid day into the evening.
Just keep in mind your on stream etiquette this weekend, there are quite a few groups in town and the creeks can be crowded this weekend. Communicate with other anglers, and keep the crowding of spots to a minimum. There are plenty of creeks out there to spread out on.

New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
That’s a long winded way of saying it is going to drizzle and lightly rain throughout the day. Typically this will do nothing to muddy up the creeks and we should continue to see clear to stained water area wide.
Yesterday was surprising as the snowmelt did not get heavy enough to mess with the fishing. We had olives hatching all day (and we could see that again today with the clouds) and happy trout eating dries and emergers in the riffles and runs.
The clouds look like they will stay in the area until early next week. While it can feel miserable for anglers, trout and aquatic insects typically love this weather.

Creeks have remained clear for the past couple of days. What snowmelt has occured has dropped water temps in the afternoon and slowed fishing down, but until today it has not muddied up the water. With the consistent rain today, we expect many of our creeks to stain up, and in some cases get muddy. With the rains predicted today and through tomorrow things might get messy for a day or two.

Creeks remained clear yesterday, but snow melt entered later in the day cooling things down. With the sun and warmer weather we expect a bit more melting today, although the ground is very thirsty and will absorb quite a bit.
Fishing was good yesterday morning into the afternoon. Mostly subsurface but a few caddis and olives were hatching. Go subsurface today until you see fish rising!

6-12 inches fell area wide last night. While it will not mess with the fishing too much, driving and parking will be difficult. Today is probably a good day to stay home. Tomorrow after a bit of melting and road maintenance will be MUCH better.
The snow is a great thing overall, the ground should absorb most of it and our springs will benefit!. It all should be melted by Wednesday. We will keep you posted on water conditions.

Weather is going to be ugly tonight and into tomorrow morning. Forecasts from anywhere between 6 and 18 inches of snow! While we welcome the water for the creeks, it will make travel extremely difficult and potentially dangerous. Best to stay away until Tuesday or so. Since the ground is thawed and dry most of the melting should percolate in pretty well.

IF you are here this morning, it is a worm morning. On the way to the shop we noticed the first emergence of earthworms! Fish the dark side and tie on a worm pattern this morning.

Otherwise, watch for olives to start hatching again with the cloud cover, and scuds will be a good idea.

Although fishing was good the past few days (thank you caddis hatch!!!) We are excited to get back on track with spring weather. The forecast for the weekend is for miserable, drizzly weather through Sunday (then a winter storm watch. Totally normal to go from a burn ban/ fire warning to winter storm right?). Fish today, fish tomorrow am, then get where you need to be before the potential wintry weather hits!!
Creeks are clear with happy fish eating caddis flies on sunny days and on days like today we should see some olive mayfly activity in the afternoon.

Today is the last day of our heat wave! We finally get back to normal weather and some much needed precipitation.
Creeks are clear and a bit low with temperatures in the low to mid 50s.

Caddis are hatching daily pretty much everywhere in the afternoon. Watch for splashy rises just below the riffles and even into the riffles.

Subsurface fishing is great on caddis larvae, thin bodied nymphs with a bit of flash, and scuds early and late when the sun is off the water.
