February 3rd Fishing Report

Partly sunny, with a high near 30. South wind 6 to 14 mph.
Go, go, go go!!! Today is another nice and sunny day which should give us some good fishing! Watch for fish rising to midges and winter stoneflies in the afternoon, and fish heavy nymphs and leeches all day.
Thursday is a winter storm and potential blizzard, then temperatures crash going into the weekend (Sunday’s high is -2).

This is the last day for a while to get outside and fish the early season.

February 2nd Fishing Report

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
Although the sun won’t show up today, fishing should still be good. We’re eyeballing tomorrow’s sunny forecast as one of those days where it will be almost necessary to call in sick and go fishing!
Midges and winter stone flies are around daily, we should see more hatching today and tomorrow with the warmer water and air temps. While still not a crazy good hatch, a sunny day can make for some fun dry fly fishing.
Most of your action will be subsurface on thin, heavy nymphs and leeches.
Creeks are low and clear with temperatures in the mid to high 30s.

February 1st Fishing Report

A chance of flurries before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 30. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph.
Creeks are low and very clear. Water temperatures are in the mid to high 30’s.
What we really need is some sunny days to get things moving (we get that on Tuesday and Thursday!). Fishing today will be ok, but the next couple of sunny days should make things much better. There are a handful of fish rising to midges and winter stoneflies, and trout are being caught on leeches and smaller streamers as long as they are swimming very slowly.
Remember the key is to fish rising water temperatures. This is usually between the hours of 10 and 2.

January 28th Fishing Report

Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 22. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon.
Creeks are low and clear. With these temperatures it just isn’t worth being out there. Water temps are in the low to mid 30’s. We see a brief warm up on Saturday with temperatures hitting 31, but without the sun shining on the water fishing could be dicey. It looks like Monday has a chance at being winter fishing weather (sunny and high 20’s) if you are hearty!
Please keep in mind the impact winter fishing has on fish. If at all possible keep fish in the water and do not handle them with gloves on!

A slight chance of snow before 11am, then a chance of flurries between 11am and noon. Cloudy, with a high near 22. North wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
No real fishing available right now. We do see some warmer temperatures (warm as in 30s) coming on Saturday. It’s a good few days to tie flies, sort gear, and plan your trip to the Driftless!
We do have a couple guides available this weekend if you want to learn how to crack the winter code

January 22nd Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 14. Wind chill values as low as -11. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
Too cold to effectively fish.
Creeks are clear and low, with some starting to show shelf ice again. It is best to wait for warmer weather both for your comfort and for the trout!

While we are lucky enough to have spring creeks that maintain decent water temperatures even on the coldest days, we encourage you to take a look at this article from Keep Fish Wet about winter temperatures and their effect on trout.

January 21st Fishing Report

Scattered snow showers, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 34. Breezy, with a west wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Sun early will get things rolling this morning. Look for fishing to remain solid (winter solid that is!) until about 3. While it will be very windy out there and it might make dry fly fishing near impossible, nymphing and throwing leeches will be good.
Through the next few days we get very cold weather and snow with high temperatures not quite reaching 30 degrees at best. You can still have some decent fishing if it is sunny and cold, but it probably isn’t worth the drive unless you just need to get out of the house and enjoy winter in the Driftless!
Creeks are low and clear with temperatures in the mid 30s.
