June 22nd Fishing Report

Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph.
Creeks are low and clear with temperatures in the mid 50s to mid 60s. While we are done with the crazy hot weather, it is still a good idea to use your thermometer as a couple of creeks are still over the 65 degree range. Most creeks are back in shape with decent temps. Things are still very low though, so approach with some stealth and caution.
Through the day, a terrestrial with a bead head below is very good. Trout are eating ants, beetles, and even a few hoppers and crickets on the surface. Subsurface has been great on thin bodied patterns.
In the evening we are getting some fish to eat mayflies. A lighter colored klinkhammer and a purple parachute will do wonders.

June 21st Fishing Report

Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Breezy, with a northwest wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
We’ve been lucky enough to get a bit of rain (still not enough to touch the overall flows, but a couple of mini flushes) and some cooler temperatures. While we are still not out of the woods water temperature wise (remember to use your thermometer!), things are overall much better than the past couple of weeks.
The week ahead promises some more cool days and nights, and a chance for some more rain later this week.
Creeks are low and clear to slightly stained with temperatures in the low to mid 60s. Fishing is still best with terrestrials right now, but the cooler weather should bring out some mayflies and egg laying caddis in the evenings.

June 18th Fishing Report

Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Light northwest wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
2-3 inches of rain last night have things murky this morning, however creeks are clearing rapidly as the ground absorbed quite a bit of the rains. A few tributaries were fishable first thing this morning and we expect more to get into shape after lunch.
However, it is still hot and sunny out! Make sure you use your thermometer. Anything over 65 will be slow fishing and much hotter than that means you are stressing out the fish.
After today, we will get some cooler weather that will hopefully get things back on track for the late spring/early summer. Once water temperatures drop back towards normal (and we get more rain…) things should turn on.
Right now it is all terrestrials with a few hatches in the evenings. We have started to see hoppers already! Foam with a dropper during the day, then switching over to some klinkhammers in the evening will catch fish.

June 17th Fishing Report

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Increasing clouds, with a high near 91. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Things are still hot here in the Driftless. Creeks are abnormally warm and the fishing has slowed down quite a bit. This won’t change too much until we get some rain. We don’t recommend fishing right now as there are only a few creeks with fish friendly temperatures. Remember to give
If you are here fishing, please remember to use your thermometer! Anything over 65 will be poor fishing and much higher than that can be lethal to fish.
There is a some rain forecasted for later today and tonight as well as a cooler week ahead. We will keep you posted on the changing conditions! Keep your fingers crossed for the rains to fall tonight.

June 16th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 84. South wind around 7 mph.
While the weather has been thankfully a bit more mild lately, our water temperatures are still much higher than they should be. There is fishable water out there on the top 1/3 of the creeks as well as many of the tributaries, but it isn’t a bad idea to continue to wait for significantly cooler weather and some rain.
If you do decide to fish, please use a thermometer. Anything over 65 degrees will be slower fishing and much higher than that you are potentially stressing trout.

June 14th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 83. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
While we are getting a break from the sweltering heat, the temperature damage has already been done. We need rain to cool things down at this point.
Please remember to use your thermometer. There is a lot of water over 65 degrees (and some spots well over 70!). When temps are over 65 fishing is very poor and can be lethal to fish. Concentrate on the upper sections of creeks and tributaries to find colder water.
If you do fish, concentrate on the early bite. Fishing is best when temperatures are the coolest from about 5-9 in the morning. In the meantime, do your rain dance! The creeks are incredibly low and this is not helping the temperature issues!

June 11th Fishing Report

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 100. West wind 5 to 8 mph.
It’s horribly hot out there again today. We have been crushed with a week of unseasonably hot weather. These temperatures are what we expect in a heat wave in August, not June!
Some of our middle and lower sections of creeks are measuring over 70 degrees water temperature. Not only will the fishing be slow, but we are actively risking harming trout at those temperatures.
There is still some fishable and temperature stable water (low to mid 60) out there, but it is becoming harder to find with no end in sight to the heat wave. If you are fishing the next couple of days, please make sure to use your thermometer. Remember that anything over 65 will start to be poor fishing.
With the water flows and temperatures we are getting right now, we don’t recommend making much of an effort to head out and fish our part of the Driftless.

June 10th Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 96. Light south wind.

Too hot to fish today, better off staying in the shade and staying cool.
Creeks are starting to warm up rapidly, make sure to use your thermometer!!! Anything over 65 degrees and you should consider going elsewhere. We have a handful of creeks that are too warm to fish, and a handful of creeks that are still cool. We’re stuck in the dog days of summer weather pattern and are forecasted to continue to see hot and sunny days with nighttime temperatures failing to cool things off.
While there is fishable water out there, you might want to reconsider a trip to our area until things cool off a bit.
If you are here and fishing, please remember to watch water temperatures. Your best bet for fishing is the first four hours of the day, and on smaller creeks, the last 4 hours of the day.

June 9th Fishing Report

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. East wind 3 to 8 mph.
It is really hot out there. On top of our already low water, this heat has not done any favors to trout fishing. Water temperatures are climbing into the mid 60s later in the day. Please use a thermometer as anything over 65 degrees can stress trout.
Finding shade is key right now. That means fishing early and late (avoiding the mid day sun) and finding any creeks that are shaded by trees or bluffs. It just isn’t great out there right now and uncomfortable for both anglers and trout!

June 8th Fishing Report

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon.
Creeks are low and clear with temperatures in the high 50s to low 60s. While it hasn’t turned completely sour yet, the fishing definitely slows down mid day when the sun is on the water.
Find the shade and you will find fish!
Terrestrials, caddis, and a few light colored mayflies at dusk are getting fish to eat on the surface. The rest of the day fishing a large beetle or hippie stomper with a bead head below is doing the trick! Get it close to the undercut banks below the riffles.
