Creeks are clear and running in the high 30s temperature wise. Later on in the day water temps are hitting the low 40s.
The main thing to keep in mind right now is that the melting snow will slow down and stop fishing rapidly. We have been fortunate enough that it hasn’t gotten too warm and we have yet to see muddy water, however as the melt starts to trickle into the creeks and drop water temperature things shut down quickly.
Midges and winter stones are hatching and we are seeing a handful of olives too.
Subsurface has been good on pretty much anything right now with scuds, euro squirrels and beatis leading the way.

So far, the melt has been perfect. It has not dumped muddy water into the system. Instead we are getting a slow trickle of melting snow that will cool things down in the later afternoon and slow fishing down. At night it has been able to freeze back up. This means creeks are clear and temperatures in the high 30s in the morning into almost the mid 40s mid day!
Watch for midges and winter stoneflies to hatch mid day as well as some possible olives.
Deep nymphing with a spanish bullet, purple drank, or scud will catch fish all day. Larger fish are still responding positively to streamers and leeches too!

Today is the last windy day. After this, things calm down quite a bit. It is getting just warm enough to melt snow on the banks of the creeks, but not enough to runoff and make them muddy. Overall creeks are clear and flowing well.
Pay attention to water temperature! You want to fish as water temperature climbs. Once the snowmelt starts to trickle into the creeks it will drop temperatures causing fishing to shut down.
We are seeing midges, winter stoneflies, and even some BWOs hatching mid day. Fishing the size 20 user friendly has been deadly on the surface lately!
Subsurface fishing is best on smaller, thin bodied bugs such as perdigons and spanish bullets. Do not neglect small streamers and leeches as they can get some larger fish to eat this time of year!

Creeks are clear and flowing well. Fishing remains good in the later morning through the afternoon. Once the snowmelt hits the creeks things slow down to shut down completely.
So far, the melting has not been intense enough to muddy things up leaving creeks clear to slightly stained.
Midges and winter stoneflies are around daily, and the chance for rising fish is high right now.
Subsurface fishing is solid on midge larvae, and picking up on larger patterns like scuds and pink squirrels.
Leeches and streamers can be very effective right now, especially in the lower and slower sections of the creeks.

This weather has been just about perfect for fishing. It isn’t getting warm enough to melt the snow and make things muddy and icy and the overnight temperatures are cold enough to lock snow melt back up.
You still have to fish before the melt hits the creeks. Rising water temperatures are perfect this time of year (and they have been hitting the magic 40 degree mark the past couple of days on some creeks) but once the snow starts to trickle in and drop temperatures, things shut down quickly.
There are some hatches of midges and winter stoneflies daily. It might take some time to find pods of rising fish, but they are out there.
More consistently, fishing heavy nymphs and scuds or leeches is catching fish.

The last two days we have seen some snow melting. The creeks are not muddy, however make sure you watch water temperature, when enough snowmelt hits the creeks and drops the water temperature, fishing shuts down!
Midges and winter stoneflies are hatching pretty much daily at this point. They aren’t thick everywhere, but make sure you have some good dry patterns ready just in case.
Most trout are eating subsurface on spanish bullets, ice cream cones, and other heavily weighted nymphs. Leeches and smaller streamers twitched through the holes are also working incredibly well right now.
