Fishing Report

Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 50s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
Despite the wind, fishing has been very solid. When the wind is blowing, subsurface is your best bet. Fishing nymphs under an indicator or on a tight line is very effective.
Leeches dead drifted, twitched or slowly stripped work quite well too. Fishing a streamer or leech during windy weather is the least aggravating way to fish.
We did have olives hatching yesterday when we found sheltered pockets out of the wind. With the sun out today we should see more caddis hatching!

Cloudy, with a high near 48. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.
The wind will be blowing pretty heavily today and into tomorrow. Things mellow out quite a bit mid week.
Creeks are clear and flowing normal for this time of year. Water temps are in the low to mid 50s.
We’re still seeing a few olives hatching, especially on days with cloud cover. Caddis are becoming the more important hatch with both black and tan showing up on most of our creeks (sunny days are better). We’ve even started to see some craneflies and fish responding to them too!
Subsurface fishing has been great on purple drank and beadis. Any nymph with a soft hackle collar right now is effective. Trout are keying in on movement more than anything lately.

Showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Northwest wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
If it weren’t for the wind, it would be just about a perfect fishing weekend. Creeks are clear with temperatures right around 50 degrees. Caddis and blue winged olives are hatching, and with the clouds in the sky, fish are less spooky than the past few days.
We’re starting the morning nymphing with either thicker bodied bead heads and scuds or slowly swimming leeches. Once fish start rising in the afternoon we are switching to dry fly mode. Twitching caddis in the riffles or casting tilt wing duns to sipping rises in the runs below the riffles.

Sun today, clouds and drizzle the rest of the weekend. The forecast is not calling for anything but very light drizzle right now. That means caddis hatching well today, and olives should be strong tomorrow!
Creeks are clear and flowing at a pretty normal level with water temperatures in the low 50s.
We are seeing mostly black caddis hatching, with a few tans showing up. Olives are still popping daily. If fish are rising gently and sipping things they are feeding on the mayflies. If the rises are aggressive and splashy, they are eating caddis.
If there is no visible surface activity, a bead head fished right below (and even in) the riffles is deadly. A simply indicator, or a small foam attractor works to help you see the eats.
Leeches and streamers have been fantastic when the sun is off the water!

This is a historically busy weekend and there are a few fishing groups in town already. Please remember to fish friendly. If there is a car in a spot and you can not check in with the angler, drive to another access point. There is plenty of water here to give everyone some space to fish.

Creeks are clear to slightly stained. Water temperatures are in the low 50s.
With the return of slightly warmer spring weather, we expect to see caddis in the afternoon. There should be more hatching today and tomorrow where the chillier and cloudier weather this weekend means olives.
When fish are not rising, the standard indicator dry with a dropper is working well, and swinging soft hackles below the riffles has been excellent later in the day.
Remember that we are seeing baitfish spawning and we should see creek lamprey show up in greater numbers too. Fishing an olive or baitfish colored streamer or leech can reward you with some nicer trout!

Creeks are clear and flowing well. Any flood warnings you see on the weather forecast is for the Mississippi river NOT our spring creeks. Our trout waters are in great shape.
We’re getting a mix of emerging insects including midges, spring stoneflies, olives, caddis (both black and tan) and even some larger mayflies. Subtle rising fish are eating mayflies and midges, aggressive rising fish are eating caddis.
Subsurface fishing has been great on purple drank, she ra, and simple zebra midges.
Suckers and chubs are spawning right now, so a baitfish style fly can be very effective fished below the riffles.

Creeks are clear and flowing just a bit low with temperatures in the high 40s to mid 50. Spring temps in both the air and the water have stabilized.
We are seeing fish rising pretty much all later afternoon and into evening. Caddis (mostly black but a few tan), olives, and larger mayflies along with spring stoneflies are all showing up here and there. Remember splashy rises are caddis feeders while sipping rises are mayflies.
When fish are not rising, we are fishing size 16 training wheels or hippie stompers (to imitate the spring stoneflies) with a bead head below. Purple drank is the best right now, with scuds and squirrels following close second. The thin bodied bugs such as purdygons and pheasant tails are best in the clear and slower water, while the thicker patterns are picking up more fish in the riffles.

Scattered rain and snow showers before 1pm, then a slight chance of rain showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Light and variable wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
While the fishing was still good, the weather last week was anything but consistent. It is forecasted to calm down a bit this coming week.
We are still seeing olives pretty much daily with a hatch in the later morning and a spinner fall in the evening. Caddis are also showing up a bit again hatching in the later afternoon.
If not surface activity is visible, fishing a smaller (16) foam pattern with a bead head below has been very effective below the riffles. Leeches and streamers especially in baitfish colors (suckers and chubs are spawning) are good now too.

A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 5pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 45. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Creeks are clear! The ground was even thirstier than we expected and no rain outside of yesterday morning has left the vast majority of our waters clear to slightly stained.
We are seeing a mix of caddis and mayflies hatching daily with rising fish showing up mid day into the evening.
Just keep in mind your on stream etiquette this weekend, there are quite a few groups in town and the creeks can be crowded this weekend. Communicate with other anglers, and keep the crowding of spots to a minimum. There are plenty of creeks out there to spread out on.
