Fishing Report

Isolated showers between 2pm and 4pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Creeks are clear and still low with temperatures in the middle to high 50s. Excellent conditions overall. The cloud cover has given us a break from crazy spooky fish. The low water still has them on edge, but a little less so when the sun is blocked.
. Caddis, Craneflies, sulphurs, cahills, and a bunch of random bugs are hatching right now! Have a few light and dark body colored mayfly patterns for surface eating fish as you never know which hatch you will run into.
If fish are not rising, a beetle with a dropper is excellent.

Creeks are low and clear with temperatures in the high 50s. Incredible conditions again today to chase trout!
With the cloud cover, fish have been much happier out there and the reports from yesterday were fantastic. Fishing a larger beetle or hippie stomper with a thick bodied bead head or scud below was catching fish all day long! When there was insect activity, swinging soft hackles or micro leeches, then switching to a purple parachute and twitching it was the ticket. This should all remain the same today.

Creeks are low and clear with temperatures remaining in the mid to high 50s. With the cloud cover and drizzle the next few days trout should be in an incredible mood and feeding well. These are the days we are always waiting for!
With the cloud cover, fish a bit larger and thicker pattern subsurface (scuds are especially good with clouds in the sky!)
On the surface, expect a few more mayflies (dark in the mornings, light colors in the evenings) with a handful of caddis.
Bigger terrestrial/attractor patterns can be a ton of fun right now too.
Streamers and leeches are always more effective when the sun is off the water.

Sunny weekend ahead. Fish early and late and find some shade for better fishing.
Creeks are very clear and still low. Trout are extremely spooky.
We are seeing caddis, midges, craneflies, lighter colored mayflies, and beetles and ants are catching fish up top.
Subsurface fishing has been best on thinner bodied nymphs with a bit of flash.
Leeches and streamers are working when the sun is off the water, and we are getting reports of decent night time mousing out there too!

Partly cloudy all weekend. Sunday will get a bit warm, but nothing too bad for this time of year.
Overall creeks are low and clear with temperatures in the high 50s. With the clear water and some sun in the sky, fish are far spookier than normal. When the clouds come over, they calm down and are much more friendly.
Caddis are still the main item on the menu with fish rising to them most of the day. If the clouds stay overhead in the afternoon and evening we are seeing some Sulphurs and other mayflies. Nothing we would call a hatch yet, but they are becoming noticeable.
Terrestrials are more and more effective every day. It is the start of the beetle and foam attractor hatch! Fishing a beetle, or a hippie stomper/ chubby Chernobyl with a bead head below is a go to now and throughout the rest of the season.

Trout are very happy in our area! Caddis are hatching again, along with midges and we have started to see some lighter colored mayflies in the late afternoon and evenings. Along with that, beetles and ants on the surface are picking up fish!
Subsurface fishing has been solid on frenchie style flies, perdigons, and anything flashy. As the sun comes out from behind the clouds, trout prefer the thinner bodied bugs rather than the scuds and pink squirrels we have been fishing the past few days.

Total rainfall in Viroqua the past 24 hours was approximately 1.5 inches (1.75 in the past 48 hours). The rains have been light and mostly spread out. Even yesterday we had clear water, especially on the smaller headwater creeks. Only one report on the West Fork of murky water.
. The rains today will be drizzle, and outside of a bank collapse or something weird, the waters should remain in great shape.
With the cloud cover, scuds will be excellent subsurface along with the normal bead heads all day long. For surface activity the water temps have cooled quite a bit and slowed down the caddis hatch, but we have seen some mayflies out there in the afternoon. Beetles as an indicator fly have been effective lately too!
This is prime streamer and leech fishing weather. The cloudy sky and stained water will have fish acting more aggressive and comfortable chasing a bigger meal.

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 49. Windy, with an east wind 24 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Creeks are in good shape as we only received half to 3/4 of an inch of rain last night into this morning. The forecast isn’t calling for a ton to fall throughout the day either. Creek clarity isn’t the issue today.
The wind is howling. And there is not a place to avoid it.
When the wind blows like this, if you go fishing, you will want to stick to subsurface. You don’t need to be nearly as accurate with heavy scuds or leeches.
Overall, today is a day we suggest you pass on as the winds will be frustrating
Bigger waters are murky and muddy, but smaller headwater creeks have held up. A little windshield time will get you fishable water!

Creeks are low and clear, with temperatures in the mid to higher 50s. The wind will be difficult today, and really difficult tomorrow!
Caddis are hatching, as are some craneflies. With the winds, subsurface fishing is going to be much more effective. Fish leeches, scuds, and some other flashy nymphs through the riffles and drop them into the runs.
It’s not the most favorable weather for fishing for the next couple of days.

Much cooler day today, which should make trout quite happy over the next few days as temperatures normalize from the mini heat wave we had last week.
Watch for caddis to hatch all day, and if the cloud cover stays in, we should see some mayflies in the evenings as well.
The overcast skies means scuds will be important too!
We still have not received and rain, so the creeks remain very low and clear.
