September 1st Fishing Report

Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.
Nothing new to report. Creeks are in great shape for later summer, flows and temperatures good except in a handful of larger creeks. Fish are happily eating terrestrials with droppers. There are some rising fish in the evenings and fishing a simple parachute or caddis emerger and twitching it like crazy has been effective. Right now movement is more important that fly pattern really as the plop and wiggle of a terrestrial is the trigger to get trout to eat.

August 31st Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 82. West wind 5 to 9 mph.
A bit warmer today through Friday, but still incredibly comfortable for the dog days of summer! The weekend cools down a bit.
It is all about terrestrials right now. As our aquatic insects have slowed down quite a bit, ants, beetles, and grasshoppers are making up the vast majority of the trout’s diet. Make sure you fish them in broken water in and below the riffles. Typically in the summertime, the fish you see in the holes and pools will not be all that willing to play.
The summer standby of a hopper with a dropper will work all day long. If there are rising fish, using a simple parachute or a missing link caddis pattern will get them to eat.

August 29th Fishing Report

A slight chance of showers between 2pm and 3pm. Mostly cloudy, then becoming sunny late, with a high near 81. West wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Fishing over the weekend was quite good! The rains did make some larger creeks murky and some even muddy, but the headwaters and tributaries remained clear to stained and were great!
Expect things to have dropped and cleared significantly as the rains were not heavy or prolonged. Clear to stained area wide with only the large creeks still medium stained to murky.
The week ahead is nothing special, sunny with highs in the high 70s. Great terrestrial weather for sure. The afternoons will be difficult with the sun and warm-fish weather, but later morning into early afternoon should be quite good.

August 27th Fishing Report

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before noon. High near 79. Light southeast wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
A brief shower this morning has given way to drizzle which should hold through the rest of the day. The rains did not mess anything up in our area at all. The vast majority of our creeks are still clear to stained. While we might get another shower or two, it does not look like anything that will last long or screw up fishing.
Because of the cloud cover and the rain cooling things down this morning, trout in are a good mood that should last with this weather all weekend long.

August 26th Fishing Report

Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Calm wind.
Creeks are clear to stained with temps in the low 60s. Only the largest creeks are in the mid 60s. This is one of the better mid summer stretches of weather we can remember!
The clouds and light rain have done wonders to keep water temperature (and air temperature!) down and water levels quite good for summertime.
Fish are feeding well on terrestrials with droppers and will eat generic parachutes and missing link caddis in the evenings as well.
Large streamers and mice at night have been quite productive too!
The forecast for the weekend looks like cloudy, drizzly, miserable weather. In other words perfect trout conditions!!

August 25th Fishing Report

A couple of good storms rolled in last night before midnight. They have dumped anywhere from a quarter to 2 inches of rain in our area.

Looking at the map, north of the shop received a little less rain.

Expect muddy conditions on many of the creeks with some of the smallest headwater ones already clear enough to fish. In this dropping, post/rain water, fish worm patterns, black leeches and scuds.

Creeks should drop and clear quickly through the day, keep your scuds handy for the next day or two as they will be the fly to fish as long as we have cloudy water and/or cloudy skies!

August 23rd Fishing Report

Sunny, with a high near 80. Light northwest wind.
Creeks are clear and a bit low with temperatures in the low 60s. It has been an excellent August and the forecast is still great for the dog days of summer!
It’s all about hoppers right now. Fishing them in the riffles and on the banks near undercuts has been a ton of fun with trout sometimes swimming across the creek to smash them!
Tying on a dropper is never a bad idea, but recently there have been days we are fishing dry only as the terrestrial fishing has been that good!

August 22nd Fishing Report

Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Light northwest wind.
Nothing to report really. This August has been downright fantastic for weather. Even this week we are not forecasted to hit above 81 for a high.
Terrestrials are still the hot ticket. Fishing training wheels or larger beetles with a nice splat is extremely effective! The past couple of days we have even cut off the droppers as fish were crushing hoppers.
With the sun out and bright the next couple of days, you just have to choose your timing a bit more carefully. From about 8 am on as the ground dries out and terrestrials start moving the fishing is good. Mid day when the sun is high, the fishing can slow down. Find some shade or take a nap and wait for the sun to start going down (around 5-ish) and fishing will pick up again!

August 19th Fishing Report

Showers and thunderstorms likely before noon, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. South wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Creeks are clear to slightly stained with temperatures in the low 60s.
Spotty rains area wide last night and through the next day or two. As of now there is nothing that we are seeing forecasted that will do anything negative to the creeks in terms of clarity. These summer storms give us some of the best fishing we can have! The cool down the air temps, and push the water temps a bit lower as well as provide some shade for trout. All good things mid summer!
We’re still doing well fishing terrestrials with bead heads below. On the cloudier days, instead of the normal thin bodied bugs we fish in the summertime, switch over to a scud or something with a bit thicker profile as fish will feed on them very well if the sun is not overhead.
These conditions are also excellent for leech and streamer fishing!
