Fishing Report

Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. Breezy, with a northwest wind 7 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
Conditions are perfect for fall! Cool temperatures, olive hatches in the late afternoon and evening, and the terrestrial bite still going stong.
The wind yesterday and again today is the only major negative! Fish a shorter, stouter leader to help you get through the wind.
Creeks are clear and a bit low with excellent temperatures. Terrestrials are still key, especially the black training wheel right now.
Olives are hatching, but not in the numbers we like. Sporadic olives area wide, they seem to be hatching a bit closer to last light, but some creeks are getting them in the afternoon too. Just be prepared with a few klinkhammers or parachutes.
In these windy conditions, do not overlook leeches. If casting becomes frustrating, tie on a black leech! It doesn’t matter as much how or where a leech or streamer lands and fish will chase it regardless of drag.

A chance of sprinkles before 9am, then a slight chance of showers after 5pm. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 64. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10%.
Cool and cloudy today means the fall olives should be showing up in the afternoon. Watch for rising fish around 2. If fish are not rising, fishing the good old standby hopper and dropper will work just fine. Focus on dark bodied foam patterns (royal hippie, black training wheel) with scuds below with the cloud cover today.

What a week ahead of us! Weather is fantastic and the water is in great shape for the start of fall.
Creeks are clear and a bit low with temps right around 60 degrees. The cooler weather and cloud cover the next few days should produce some afternoon olive hatches. Make sure to stock up on purple film stars! Through the day fish will continue to eat terrestrials and, of course, feed subsurface on thinner bodied bead head nymphs. Fish a small training wheel with a zebra midge or perdigon below when fish are not visibly eating on the surface.

Partly sunny, with a high near 67. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
What a difference a day makes. From 90 and sunny to cool and comfortable. The first day of a cold front can be tricky for fishing. Your best bet is to fish subsurface below the riffles (we will still use a foam pattern as an edible indicator). Sometimes the unstable weather change can put the fish in a funk, BUT the next few days will have them more relaxed and happy.
We’re on the lookout for the late summer/fall olive hatch with this cooler weather. Especially if we get some clouds we should see the olives show up again. A klinkhammer or film star will do the trick, or our favorite emerger the pearl butt secret.
Terrestrials will still fish effectively through the day, and guides have been grabbing small leeches for the early part of the day before the fish ‘wake up’ to terrestrials.
Creeks are in great shape, clear and a touch low with very good temperatures that will only get better with the cool weather the rest of the week.

A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9am. Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph.
Hot and muggy today. This is the last day for a short while that we will see hot weather, tomorrow and through the weekend is barely supposed to hit 70 degrees maximum. Friday doesn’t even reach 60! This should bring the olives back.
In the meantime, during the heat today toss hoppers and beetles in the shin to thigh deep water near undercut banks. Droppers, especially zebra midges are deadly right now too.
As the cooler weather hits, size down on the hoppers a bit, and look for olives hatching later afternoon and evening.

Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 77. Light and variable wind.
Creeks are clear to stained and flowing well. Temperatures are very stable and favorable for later summer. The exceptions are the bigger waters (West Fork, North Fork, South Fork) which are just fishing a bit off.
Otherwise, fish are happily eating terrestrials in the riffles and runs, and eating thinner bodied nymphs below the riffles and near undercut banks.

A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. South wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Nothing crazy new on the weather or fishing front. We are eyeballing next Wednesday as another turning point in the weather/fishing where a large cold front following a storm looks to be coming in. That will trigger the olives to re appear in the afternoon.
As for the next few days, we will continue enjoying the incredible hopper fishing we have had this season! Terrestrials are the main food source on the surface right now and fish are happily eating them from later in the morning until dark (fishing is slow when the dew is still on the grass, wait for it to dry out).

Creeks are clear and flowing well for late summertime. Temperatures have been solid right around 60 with only a couple larger bodies of water still warm and showing some stain.
The trout menu is pretty simple from here until we get a long cooler snap of weather. Terrestrials fished in the riffles and near overhanging vegetation. Tie a slim bead head below the terrestrial for even more success!
When the temperatures do start to dip watch for the afternoon/evening olive mayfly hatch!

Sunny, with a high near 76. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
Back to normal summer weather. Temperatures in the high 70s to 80 the rest of the week. The silver lining is that the hopper action will pick back up again! As the sun dries the dew off the grass the terrestrial fishing picks up. No need to get out super early in the morning if you are chasing the hopper bite.
In our area, the rain was light and didn’t fall all day long the past few days. Creeks are clear to slightly stained and temperatures are excellent after the cool weather.

There has not been near enough rain to make the creeks murky. They remain clear to slightly stained with excellent water temperatures!
Today is the last day of the cool, cloudy and drizzly weather. It has been a fantastic couple of days of fall weather with fish happily eating subsurface on scuds and leeches as well as a few still hitting darker colored terrestrial and attractor patterns with abandon. It didn’t quite produce a great olive hatch with only a few reports of spotty rising activity from around the area.
Tomorrow we get sunny and warmer weather which will mean the return of hopper and beetle fishing!
