Fishing Report

Showers. High near 42. South wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Light rain and higher temperatures continue our snowmelt. Creeks are starting to muddy up a bit. However, with the below freezing evening and cooler temperatures tomorrow the fishery will get back on track quickly and should be in great shape for tomorrow mid day and through the weekend.

Scattered flurries after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 29. North wind around 11 mph.
There is still some snow on the banks, which should slowly melt over the next few days. So far it has been a trickle melt that locks up again with below freezing temperatures at night, but we might get some murky water Wednesday/Thursday.
Overall, it is still winter fishing. Which means fish the middle part of the day (roughly from 9-3) when the water warms up and before snowmelt cools it down.
We are still seeing midges and winter stoneflies. Olives are right around the corner if we get some warmer temperatures later this week!

A chance of snow before 11am, then a chance of flurries between 11am and noon. Cloudy, with a high near 34. North wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Lots of snow fell overnight. This later winter snow will slowly melt over the next couple of days. With temperatures this weekend in the low 30s, the chance of a massive melt off are very slim. The banks did not have much snow on them before last night, so it will not be too difficult to get around. Just give road crews some time to scrape the roads first thing this morning and really focus on fishing from 10-2 when water temperatures are the best.
We are still seeing midges and winter stones hatching daily, and lately leeches have been excellent with trout responding to them fished either dead drift OR with a slow strip.
Fishing scuds below the riffles right now is great too.

Creeks are starting to see some snowmelt with the warm-ish temperatures. This is normally occurring around 2. Once the snowmelt hits the creeks, the fishing drops off or shuts down completely. Even a small trickle of melt can drop the water temperature and end your fishing day. A thermometer is extremely important right now!

We’re seeing midges and winter stoneflies pretty much daily, and fish are happily eating small, thin bodied bugs in the riffles and at the drop off and tailout of pools.

Decent winter weather all week long. March 1st is normally when we start getting ready in earnest for the upcoming trout season. While mid winter fishing can be fun, March brings more reliably comfortable temperatures and better fishing.
We have midges and winter stoneflies hatching daily. Creeks in are in good shape thanks to a slow melting of the snow. Just remember your thermometer, once it gets too late in the day and the snowmelt hits the creeks in a larger volume, fishing shuts down. Make sure you are fishing a rising water temperature!

Rain, possibly mixed with sleet before 2pm, then a chance of rain between 2pm and 4pm. High near 37. Breezy, with an east wind 11 to 18 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.
Spitting some winter sleet today, but it is not predicted to be heavy at all or really stick around. Temperatures will hover around 40, then drop to the mid to high 30s, then back again closer to 40 for the weekend. The forecast is looking good for winter fishing!
We did get quite a bit of snow early last week, but it has not impacted fishing much at all. Just remember to be careful where you park and pull all the way off the road if you are on a creek with snow on the shoulder of the road.
It is still midges and winter stoneflies on the surface mid day. Subsurface is starting to get better on larger and thicker bodied bugs. While most of the fish are on small, thin and black or flashy nymphs, scuds, purple drank, and brush hogs are picking up more and more fish lately.
Leeches are good as well! Fish them slowly below the riffles and let the current make them move. Don’t strip them, twitch them!

Today is the last stable weather day this week. After today we are seeing the potential for some (much needed) snow through Thursday. It could snow a lot, or a little depending on what weather forecast you read. Either way with wind, potential snow, and cooler temps, it probably isn’t the best week for winter trout in the Driftless. It stays in the mid 20s until Saturday when the highs are in the low 30s.

Shop will not be open this week until Saturday.

Cold and windy today, but things get MUCH better on Saturday for a couple of days. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny and a high of 40. Remember to hit the creeks mid day as the water temperature is climbing for your best success.
We have been seeing midges and winter stoneflies hatching, and on the warmer days fish are happily eating nymphs and leeches twitched below the riffles.

A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly before 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 26. North wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
Weather is just average to downright crummy until the weekend. Chilly and windy until Saturday, when the temperatures will return to the low 40s. It is very odd, but there is not a lot of snow on the ground for February which makes walking and fishing a bit easier than normal for this time of year.
Midges and winter stoneflies have been hatching mid day, and fish are eating nymphs subsurface as well as leech patterns twitched slowly through the holes.

Looking at the forecast, today is the last day for good fishing. If the rains hit tomorrow, it will both melt some snow dropping water temperatures AND throw some muddiness into the creeks if it rains hard enough. That’s not a good thing for the middle of the week. Near the end of the week, things get cold again until Saturday….
In other words, fish today, and wait until Saturday (unless somehow the rains miss the area).
